SCP-096: The 'Shy Guy'

1. The Anatomy of Grief

SCP-096 is a tall, emaciated humanoid approximately 2.38 meters in height. His skin is entirely devoid of pigment, and his arms are grotesquely out of proportion to the rest of his body.

Normally, he is docile. He spends his days sitting in the eastern corner of his cell, weeping and muttering to himself in a state of apparent psychological distress. But this mask of sorrow hides a nature that is perfectly designed for slaughter.

SCP-096 in a rage state.

2. The Activation: An Inescapable Execution

The moment a subject (designated SCP-096-1) views SCP-096’s face, the entity enters a state of extreme emotional distress. He covers his face and begins screaming. This lasts for one to two minutes before he begins his pursuit. *Universal Tracking : No matter where the target is—buried underground or on the other side of the planet—SCP-096 knows their exact location. *Physical Invulnerability : There is no known way to stop him. He can swim through the deep ocean, punch through tank armor, and move at near-sonic speeds until he reaches his target. *Total Erasure : Upon reaching the victim, SCP-096 kills them and leaves “zero biological trace.” He then returns to his docile, weeping state until the next time he is seen.

3. Incident 096-1-A: The Four Pixels

The most famous demonstration of his power involved a man looking at an old photograph of a mountain trip. In the background of the 15-year-old photo, at the edge of a cluster of rocks, was a “four-pixel” blur of SCP-096’s face.

The man’s brain processed those four pixels as a face, and thousands of miles away, the “Shy Guy” broke containment, leveled several buildings, and executed the man. This incident serves as a grim warning: in our world of high-resolution cameras and instant sharing, a cognitohazard can be waiting in any archive.

4. The Blind Man’s Shield

The only safety from 096 is ignorance. He does not react to artistic renderings or sketches—only to his “true” image. We walk through a world of infinite images every day; The Shy Guy asks us to consider the danger of looking too closely at the backgrounds of our lives. “Do not look. Do not notice. Stay safe.”
