1. ‘Bon’s Burgers’: The Rotting Dream
The story begins in the 1970s with two men: Jack Walten and Felix Kranken. Together, they opened “Bon’s Burgers,” a dream restaurant filled with state-of-the-art animatronics designed to bring joy to children.
However, a horrific car accident caused by Felix’s negligence shattered their dream, leading to the death of Jack’s youngest children. This tragedy triggered a spiral of guilt, concealment, and the eventual disappearance of Jack Walten himself. These events were captured and “saved” in a series of disturbing corporate training tapes and private archives.
2. Beyond the ‘Uncanny Valley’
What makes The Walten Files stand out in the Analog Horror genre is its “Fleshiness.” By distorting real-life photographs of the victims and merging them with the mechanical parts of the puppets, Walls creates a visual language that feels like a post-mortem record.
The victims are “fixed” and “reconstructed” within the machines. The phrase “I will make you beautiful” becomes a horrific euphemism for the total stripping of human identity and the permanent imprisonment of the soul within a non-functioning, decaying animatronic shell. It is a commentary on the cruelty of “recording” and “storing” grief.
3. The Voices in the Gearbox
The heart of the mystery is “Who” is inside the machines: *Jack Walten : The missing founder, whose shadow haunts every hidden message and glitch in the tapes. *Rosemary Walten : Jack’s wife, who met a gruesome end when she was “reconstructed” by the animatronic known as Bon. *Ed and Molly : The children whose souls were transferred into the puppet “Rocket” after the fatal accident.
4. The Infinite Replay
The Walten Files asks us to consider the permanence of our mistakes in the digital and analog age. Once recorded, the horror can be replayed forever. Each time we watch a tape, we are re-processing the electrical signals of their agony. In the grinding of the animatronic’s gears, we hear the screams of a family that was never allowed to truly die.
